The original concept for the Transitions Initiative was developed in 2005 by Marcia Hayes-Harris (Project Even Start) and Deborah Logan (SLCC - Forest Park). They envisioned a collaborative partnership that would stimulate a desire in transitioning AEL students to continue on a post-secondary path.

After a year of planning and consultation with faculty and staff, the program was launched.  The pilot program was launched in the Spring of 2007.

The Transitions Program is an academic enrichment opportunity designed for Adult Education students who are interested in matriculating from their GED preparation program to a post-secondary experience.

The program is offered to 20 students from the St. Louis area.  Students participating in the program receive a tuition waiver. The six week - one credit hour course - is offered as a PRD 121 course called Personal Success. Classes are scheduled on Mondays from 10:30 a.m. - 12:50 p.m. beginning October 6, 2008. Top of Page

Interested students must meet the following criteria to be eligible for enrollment:

· Enrollment in a certified AEL or Family Literacy program.
· Provide verification and scores from Practice GED, TABE or CASAS. Scores must be at 400 or above.
· Resident of St. Louis city or county. Preference will be given to city residents and to students who indicate Forest Park as a post-secondary  option.
· Completion of the 15 hour GED Preparation workshop is recommended.

Students will have access to Forest Park campus resources and will receive one credit hour upon completion of the program. Top of Page
