Intake Assessment

Anyone seeking academic instruction with our Program is required to take the TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education).  The TABE helps us identify your skills and areas for improvement. TABE is administered through an online platform and monitored through one of our certificate state proctors in person or through web based meeting software link Google Meets and Zoom. You will complete three different tasks prior to being eligible to join our in person classes.

  1. Online Tools Training: (on your own): 

    • A brief tutorial to check your computer and understand the web testing tools.

  2. TABE Locator (with a teacher/proctor in a virtual meeting):

    • A short assessment to determine your testing level in Reading, Math, and Language.

  3. TABE Test (with a teacher/proctor in a virtual meeting):

    • A longer assessment to determine your skills needed to succeed on the job and in life.

You will receive an appointment time and virtual meeting link to complete the TABE Locator and TABE Test. Prior to your testing appointment, please complete the Online Tools Training (instructions below).

To test, you will need:.

  • A computer (desktop or laptop) or a device, such as an iPad or Chromebook (a cell phone will not work);
  • Webcam;
  • Microphone;
  • Speakers or headphones (Phones are not permitted during the testing session);
  • Cell phones CANNOT be used for remote testing;
  • Photo ID;
  • Quiet room where you can work undisrupted; and

  • Scratch paper and a pencil during the math portion of the test.

Important: Remote testing requires the Google Chrome Browser. To download and install the latest version of the Chrome browser, go to www.google.com/chrome/.

Online Tools Training Tutorial

Online Tools Training tests are practice tests; you will not be scored on these tests. The practice tests include detailed instructions for testing, and allow you to get comfortable using the tools used for actual tests.  

  1. Using the Google Chrome browser, go to: https://wbte.drcedirect.com/TABE/portals/tabe. 

  2. Click on: Online Tools Training

  3. Click on: TABE 11&12 Reading

  4. Click on: E (easy)

  5. Click on: Standard

  6. Enter the username and password shown on the Login Page. 

  7. Use the Back button to go back to the List of Tests so you can try testing in different content areas. When you are done practicing, click the Back button until you return to the Main Menu.
